Position Description

Make a Lasting Impact in Oncology Care

At NewYork‑Presbyterian, oncology nurses are essential partners in delivering world‑class cancer care. We invite you to join our Breast Medical Oncology team at the state‑of‑the‑art David H. Koch Center (DHK)—a transformative outpatient facility designed around the needs of cancer patients and their families. As a Practice Nurse, you will play a vital role in supporting patients across the continuum of breast cancer treatment, ensuring safe, compassionate, patient‑centered care within a multidisciplinary environment.

The Practice Nurse serves as an integral member of the ambulatory oncology care team. In this role, you will:

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Provide direct nursing care to ambulatory breast oncology patients, guided by the ANA Scope & Standards of Practice and NYP Nursing Bylaws.
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments, symptom triage, and ongoing monitoring for patients receiving systemic therapies.
  • Coordinate care across the treatment journey—clinic visits, infusions, imaging, supportive services, survivorship pathways, and transitions of care.
  • Deliver patient and family education, including treatment plans, side‑effect management, self‑care strategies, and care coordination instructions.
  • Support safe medication administration and adherence to evidence‑based protocols.
  • Collaborate directly with medical oncologists, APPs, infusion nursing, pharmacy, scheduling teams, and supportive care colleagues.
  • Facilitate urgent symptom evaluation in alignment with the oncology urgent‑care and fast‑track pathways.
  • Ensure accurate documentation, clinical communication, and use of technology to optimize patient outcomes.

Professional Practice

  • Uphold NYP's Primary Nursing model to promote continuity, accountability, and therapeutic relationships.
  • Integrate evidence‑based practice, participate in quality‑improvement initiatives, and contribute to unit‑based Shared Governance activities.
  • Demonstrate service excellence and a commitment to culturally competent, patient‑centered care.
  • Maintain ongoing competency through continued education, professional development, and adherence to regulatory standards.

Required

Key Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
  • Current NYS Registered Professional Nurse (RN) license
  • BCLS; additional life‑support certifications per department policy
  • Strong clinical assessment, communication, and patient‑education skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced oncology practice setting

Preferred

  • Prior oncology or ambulatory care experience
  • OCN® certification or willingness to obtain
  • Experience with symptom triage, infusion environments, or multidisciplinary oncology teams

Salary Range

$128,149-$146,972/Annual
